Slack groups can be an effective tool for growing and nurturing business communities by providing a platform for members to connect, collaborate, and share knowledge.

In this HRchat episode, we hear from Martin Hauck, Founder of The People People Group, a 3,000+ member Slack group for HR, Recruiting and Talent Acquisition professionals. Since June 9th 2017, the group has exchanged over 400,000 messages, referred countless candidates to other members, and answered thousands of common day-to-day questions that people in the people industry encounter.

Questions for Martin include:

  • How do you encourage members of The People People Group to participate in discussions, share their ideas, and contribute to the community? (E.g. this can be done by asking questions, sharing relevant news and resources, and organizing events and activities that are of interest to the community).
  • Is it apt to share personal info on business social networks? 
  • Moderation and support: How do you ensure that the Slack group is moderated to maintain a respectful and inclusive environment? What happens if members break the rules?
