#267: Leadership Lessons From the Prison System w/ Neil Lavis, HMPPS
Mar 12, 2021 Season 1 Episode 267
The HR Gazette

Most of the leaders we interview on this show are from corporate environments. Our guest in episode 267, however, learned how to be a leader in a much tougher career - the prison system.

Neil Lavis has worked as a senior leader within the prison system since 1998 both in the UK and the Caribbean. He has managed diverse and sometimes difficult teams to achieve excellence. Roles have included Cayman Islands Director Of Prisons at the Ministry of Home Affairs and Governor at Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS).

During his career, Neil has improved the performance in all of the organizations through his ability to inspire, bring out the best in others and make employees more confident and effective in their work and personal lives.

Neil is also Founder of lavisleadershipcoaching.com, a leadership consulting firm, and will be a speaker at the free-to-attend March 23rd InnovateWork Caribbean webinar: innovatework.co/caribbean-march-23-2021/

Listen as Neil offers a practical, uncomplicated approach that will show you how to encourage teamwork, get people to buy into your leadership style, and make things happen. Questions include:

  • What are the qualities one needs to be a leader within the prison system?
  • Can you share examples of situations that have tested your leadership ability?
  • What drew you to coaching? And what, in your opinion, makes for a good coach?
  • You will be a speaker at the March 23rd InnovatWork Caribbean event. Tell me about your session and what attendees can expect to learn.
