Substance Misuse in the Workplace with Jason Sundby, Verde Environmental Technologies Inc

The HR Gazette Season 1 Episode 494

Many employers are struggling with ways to help, and authentically communicate with, remote employees whose consumption of substances increased during the pandemic.

The guest this time is Jason Sundby, the mission-driven CEO of  Verde Environmental Technologies Inc., a company that’s committed to developing solutions to reduce drug misuse and negative environmental impact, both at home and in the workplace. Verde is the maker of Deterra at-home drug disposal and deactivation pouches and is a national business advocate for the movement to keep potentially lethal prescription medications out of the wrong hands.

Jason partnered with U.S. Cong. Mary Bono and Admiral James Winnefeld to make disposal of unused opioids and other prescription drugs a top-of-mind issue and then collaborated with employers, non-profits, treatment centers and first responders to fight the opioid epidemic by reducing easy, at-home access to opioids!

Questions For Jason Include:

  • You advocate for keeping potentially lethal prescription medications out of the wrong hands. Can you explain the problem/the epidemic we're facing in the US and elsewhere?
  • During Deterra’s last “Gone for Good” campaign in April, your company gave away 30,000 free at-home disposal pouches — and since the start of the bi-annual campaign in April 2020, it’s given away 100,000 pouches -- enough to destroy nearly 9 million opioids and unused or expired medications. You're running another campaign this month, October. Tell us about it
  • Why should employers care about substance misuse and safe drug disposal?
  • What are Deterra pouches and how do they work?
  • How can employers use Deterra as a prevention tool?
  • What else can employers do to address the problem of substance misuse in the workplace?
  • Where can employers find Deterra Pouches?

This month, national nonprofit SAFE Project is providing the Deterra® Drug Deactivation and Disposal System free of charge to U.S. households through the Gone for Good® at-home medication disposal campaign. Learn more: deterrasystem.com/safe
